Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I joined Capgemini around 6 months ago. For the first 3 months, I was shadowing one of my colleagues in testing. However, I wanted to try out different roles in my team to get an idea of what I enjoyed and wanted to do. Recently I've started shadowing a colleague on "daily checks" in which we check everything in the system is working and up to date.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy working with my team a lot, there is honesty, inclusion, and trust. I enjoy problem-solving and program development, and I am able to pick out the jobs and projects that are best suited to my interests. I have found that everybody feels included and welcomed into the company - including myself.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my skills in Java and SQL massively. Whilst attending meetings and working with professionals I have gained many people skills, confidence in myself, and working in a team. I am able to get training in any course I'd like to, and am encouraged to develop my skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Personally, I have spent many months waiting for my clearance to come back - which has meant I could not be involved in many of the projects in my team. This has meant I haven't been able to get much experience on the work side, however, I have had plenty of time to complete my university work to a high standard. I am able to get support from my team when I need help in my studies, I have a GAP buddy, a skills coach, a reviewer, a scrum master, and a manager - all with whom I have frequent useful meetings on my progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have frequent meetings with my manager when we discuss my progress, my problems, and my ideas of what I want to do in my career at Capgemini. I am supported in every way. I am able to set up a meeting with my manager or reviewer or anybody if I need to discuss something, and I feel confident doing so.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have a skills coach with whom I have meetings every 6 weeks to discuss my progress, the skills I need to improve, any problems or questions I have, etc. - these are very useful and help with the monthly reflective journal I have to write. I have interactive lectures with my university lecturers, where I can ask them any questions about the work and they will help me. Sometimes these are helpful, other times not so much and slightly boring. But I am also able to set up 1-to-1 meetings with my lecturers whenever I need to, or send them emails.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel like the monthly reflective journals I have to write - as a reflection on a specific problem I overcame in my role - help me to see my progress and focus on my weaknesses to improve on them. They also encourage me to understand my role better and research about the wider company to understand more about context-awareness.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I get involved in the book club. Currently, due to the pandemic, there are not many social events and activities. However, there are virtual gym sessions and yoga sessions that I am able to attend from home. When I am not working I enjoy reading for the book club. There are also many volunteering activities available.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Capgemini to a friend mostly because of their constant support in my career, and the fun atmosphere which is created by the company. They care about your wellbeing and encourage you to take care of yourself and take breaks. I am able to be honest and open with my co-workers, I feel included and supported, and I know that I can easily work to develop my career if I want to.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
When applying to Capgemini, be clear about the reasons you want to join the company and what skills you already have which would be useful in the company. This can be anything from teamwork in your football club or creativity in your art coursework. All of your skills can be incorporated into the IT world, so make use of any hobbies and experiences you have to accentuate yourself. Be confident in yourself, be honest and kind to others during the assessment days, and take full interest in the company. Ask questions about the course.
