Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently based in the innovations, reliefs and incentives department which is a part of corporate tax. In our department, we help companies to calculate how much money they are able to claim back from HMRC as a result of completing R&D. My typical tasks are preparing workbooks, sending follow up emails, organising meetings and taking notes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme and am proud to work at KPMG. I like how the programme enables me to experience different departments before choosing where I would like to specialise. As I joined straight after completing my A-levels, I was still unsure what I wanted to do in the long term so this programme was perfect as it kept my options open.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt more about the department itself and developed knowledge in what IRI actually is. I have developed my communication skills since joining this department as I have communicated with clients frequently. I have become more proactive as in my role it is important to keep on top of dealdines we have given to clients and send chasers when appropriate.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
In my experience it is well organised and well structured. We have apprenticeship contacts that we can reach out to for certain issues. The only thing I think could be improved is the organisation of the alloaction of placements as a lot of apprentices haven't really moved departments since joining the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I recieve a lot of support from all of my colleauges. Every one in my department is always happy to help and take the time to talk me through things. We have regular training sessions every 2 weeks and we also have access to a wide range of online training.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We have access to an online platform which has steps for each course we do, we have deadlines to complete the steps and if we don't meet them it affects the possibility of being able to resit if needed. This keeps us motivated to complete all of the steps on time and stay on track.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
As I am still at the early stages of my apprenticeship, I haven't needed much of the qualification I am studying in my every day role. However, I imagine that as I make my way through the apprenticehsip I will be able to put the knwoledge I have acquired into practice.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We all have 6 CSR days a year to use as volunteering which I think is a really good opportunity. There are also plenty of social groups within the firm that anyone can join depending on their interests. We have a weekly social in our department which is currently virtual, but when we were in the office we often met outside of work on a Friday evening.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because its a great firm to work for. I am supported through my qualification and my colleagues are always happy to help. If we have any personal issues we can access help through work and we also have a wide range of people we can talk to. I would definitely reccommend.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
prepare for your interview by reading KPMG's values and thinking of a situation for eahc value where you have demonstrated that you show that. Be confident and think of some questions to ask the interviewer. Read about KPMG before the interview, eg. some of the clients KPMG have, as this will make you look well prepared.
