Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am responsible for a team of Training and Development Officers, who deliver the Standard Apprenticeships to a range of our clients.
I am accountable for the delivery of the programmes, and for the experience that our learners get from the apprenticeships.
I conduct reviews and 1-1s with my team, analysing data and setting targets, as well as resolving day to day issues.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoying learning new things, and am especially enjoying this training course. As well as finding it really beneficial, I am also developing my existing knowledge, skills and behaviors, as well as adopting and learning new ones as well. I also get a lot out of completing activities with my peers on the course and enjoy learning from their experience as well.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a great deal whilst on my level 5 Operational Departmental Manager Apprenticeship. I have especially enjoyed the topic of emotional intelligence, and how to use this to better understand my team and how they respond to different situations and what motivates them in a work environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The course is really well structured. At the start I was sent a timetable of all of the classroom sessions that would be conducted for the duration of the programme. This helped my plan my work/job around the sessions for the apprenticeship.
I have regular meetings with my training and development officer, and he lets me know in advance what topics will be covered and when.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer, and my direct line manager especially. I am able to make good use of the 20% OTJ time availability, and if there is anything I am unsure about, or need to clarify, then my direct line manager is always available to speak to and support me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I get all the support that I need from my training provider and my training and development officer, Shaun. He is always available to talk to, and if I email him with a question, he normally calls me back within an hour or so, and at length explores the question that I have and gives me the necessary help and motivation to complete the task as required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Very much so, as I mentioned above in one of my other answers, I have particularly liked, and started to implement, the emotional intelligence when dealing with my team and their different personalities and approaches to their day to day tasks and responsibilities. I have also found that the management theorists are really interesting and are a useful insight.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Prior to lockdown etc, there were regular professional networking events, meetings and seminars that we attended on a regualr basis. Also, we would have monthly team meetings, which was a great opportunity to get to know my colleagues on a social level, as well as to discuss work tasks and issues.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Realise to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Realise Training are an incredibly supporting employer, as well as apprenticeship provider. They have a friendly, flexible and adaptable approach to learning, and my Training and Development Officer is always on hand to help facilitate, guide and support me whenever I have any questions or issues that I need his support with.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Realise?
Be as honest as you can be with your training and development officer! If you're not sure of something, don't sit there worrying or stressing about it, drop them an email (or a phone call) and raise the question with them - they always have lots of time to talk through any questions and issues that you're having - so just let them know!
