Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a part of the 'Big Data' project which aids market intelligence and analysis through creating dashboards for colleagues in my team. I also create loss overview spreadsheets when there has been a loss in the marine and energy industry. I assist other colleagues with any other work also.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I very much enjoy the apprenticeship programme that Aon has to offer as it provides me with the ability to gain industry-recognised qualifications such as the CII and ACII whilst also learning on the job. In addition, my team and Aon as a whole are very supportive and encouraging and promote professional and personal growth.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have been studying to gain my CII insurance qualifications, I have attended both internal and external revision sessions, through this, I have gained more knowledge about the industry in which I work in. I have also attended many internal training courses in Excel and PowerPoint. I have gained professionalism and communications skills also.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Aon's apprenticeship programme is very well organised and structured. There is a 2-week induction training offsite before we start in the office. Also, there is external and internal training and revision workshops to support us with our qualifications. We are given mentors in our team. Overall it is very organised/structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer, my manager, my mentor, other colleagues in my team, and external coaches. They all support me and help me if I ever have any concerns I could easily ask and they would all guide me with any problems I could have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My external training provider has given me a coach and we have monthly meetings to catch up and the coach offers their support in my qualifications and aids me with my off-the-job learning. My training provider has a very good attitude towards supporting me and I can easily approach them with any concerns I am having.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Gaining the industry-recognized qualifications and learning on the job allows me to put what I have learned in theory into practice and helps me on a day-to-day basis in my role through understanding terminology that is used between my team members during meetings. Through completing my qualification I am more knowledgeable about the industry I work in.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many extracurricular activities to get involved in at work for example there is an Under35s group that hosts social events and networking events all year round and there are company activities such as sports teams and cycling events set up and away days and many networking events and seasonal activities.

Why?
I would recommend Aon to other people as I have had an enjoyable experience being a part of the apprenticeship program. Also, Aon offers the chance to gain industry-recognized qualifications whilst working on the job. Aon offers a lot of support in your career and helps build on your professional and personal skills.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
Aon eases your way into working life for example there is a two-week induction off-site where you get to meet all the other apprentices in your cohort which is a good way to meet others who are in your position too. Get involved and attend any networking events or social activities.
