I was placed in 5 areas for 6 months at a time to learn about as much of the factory and how it work as was possible.
On a daily basis I was learning how to operate machinery, how the company worked and extra things that would apply to the apprenticeship coursework.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed the on job part of the apprenticeship more than the theory as I am more of a kinesthetic learner.
The theory was difficult to understand in some areas and coursework somewhat unstructured. This meant it was a rush to learn everything we needed for the End Point Assessments.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt how to operate different machines in different areas all around the factory which has enabled the company to benefit from the versatility of my skills.
Through the coursework and lessons, I learnt how to understand the bigger scope of how a manufacturing business works and studied areas such as HACCP, Health & Safety and Quality in depth.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The on-the-job structure of the programme was pretty good with the right manager. They would have days set out with different people of different skills which enabled me to get as much knowledge of the areas as I could in a short space of time.
The Theory side was not so well structured which meant it was a rush to get everything learnt in time for the End Point Assessments

How much support do you receive from your employer?

It completely depended on the individual manager of each area. Most of them gave great support and understood we were there to learn as much as possible with them.
Other managers seemed to see us as cheap labour for the job which was understandable for the short term but for the full 6 months meant we could not learn what we needed for the apprenticeship.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The Training provider was good at giving us support whenever we needed it for the coursework. We were able to contact them out of hours by mobile if needed.
However, the trainers IT skills were not the best and the coursework moved over to an E-portfolio. This meant that we had to figure some stuff out for ourselves

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The specific things I learnt on the Theory side has helped with projects and understanding specifics aspects of the company that others, who have not been on an apprenticeship, know at all.
The apprenticeship as a whole was designed to prepare us in to management roles and it was good for driving us in that direction. However it has not been something I have pursued as of yet.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Social activities such as pub quiz's, award ceremonies and meals out were arranged on a frequent basis which was always a good boost of morale and allowed us to develop better connections with colleagues.
There was also a work based trip we were sent on which was used as an introduction to the company.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestlé?
Make themselves aware of Nestle rules - We are very advanced with Health & Safety and all employees are expected to follow every rule.
Familiarise themselves with Quality & Compliance - both of these are things Nestle take seriously to ensure the upkeep of the excellent reputation it has held on to for many years.
