Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work for the NHS in a neuropsychiatric rehabilitation unit where we help people mostly with the cognitive and behavioural issues after brain injury. We make sure we help them with their Activities of Daily Living in order to make them as independent as possible before discharge home or elsewhere
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am enjoying the experience very much. It is still early days as I started just a few months ago but so far I have been able to balance my work, studies and my personal life with no issues or pressure which is the most important factor for me

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Everyday while doing my job I learn new things about brain injury and different it's presentations as well as I improve my knowledge and my skills in nursing aspects involved in the job. I recently learnt how to countersign for control drugs and how to do and ECG.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured and it is very easy to understand and follow. The student home page is easy to interpret and use and the weekly material and work is very easy to manage. And even though it is organised weekly, you have access to all of it!
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A lot! I have regular meetings with my supervisor from the NHS apprenticeship team. In addition I have a very supportive manager that have been very flexible and good with my shifts to be able to give me enough time off work to study. And I work with supportive nurses!
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As much I need really. My tutor is always there to talk to me or support me if I have issues with my studies. There is also a student helpline for any other matter, not necessarily related to our studies. There is also a forum for support from other students
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel this is the right way for me to learn. Being able to study something that I can apply straightaway at work immediately makes all the difference! You learn quicker and learning is faster, as well as, the information consolidates better because it is applied in real life.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, sometimes there are social events, sport activities and also a lot of groups of support if needed. With covid things have been a little bit paused but there were some things still happening through Microsoft Teams.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think it is a great company that work very well and helps the whole nation with their physical and mental health at many different levels. They have amazing professionals and provide a great services. Workers are extremely well looked after and protected from abuse or discrimination. It is just great!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
I would say, you will it regret it!! Even if you are not completely sure about the role you are going to take or not fully satisfied, your colleagues and managers will be able to support you and recommend you to the right area for you within the NHS.
