Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My main role is reception work at St Marys Hospital, where I greet patients and book them into their appointments upon arrival. Other duties include back office work which involves making phone calls to patients who are on a work list to book appointments requested from their GP.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have been enjoying my apprenticeship, and being in a different working environment from what I was in previously. Working with a team of people that provide a huge amount of support is a big help, and creates a really nice, positive atmosphere to work in.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my customer service skills and how to change them for the environment when greeting patients. Worked independently for the first time on reception and that helped me to overcome and learn how to deal with problems on my own rather than relying on colleagues.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is structured well from both the college and the organisations side, know when the college classes are and how to access them. My work has been amazing and has helped to organise my working pattern and helping to work within different areas of the department.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I feel I receive a lot of support from my employer, so much so I rarely need to ask for any more support on my work as everything gets discussed and covered as part of my college 20%.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The college is very supportive when work is handed in get regular catch ups with assessors, and feedback from tasks is given they are always happy to help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

from the workshops I have completed so far they have outlined the Solent NHS as a whole and do not feel they are related to my role specifically but as a customer service point of view as a whole.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The Solent NHS provides extra training courses for staff to join which discuses topics to allow people to ask and answer any questions. Also there are groups for members of staff to get involved with, but some of them require staff to participate in these groups out of working hours

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would highly recommend the Solent NHS, I have only been working within my role for just over a month and I could not believe the level of support I have been given, and could not praise my team enough for all their help during training.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Remember to quote their HEART Values during an interview. Look into the department you will be working for and the Solent NHS as a whole. The interview I had was with two members of staff rather than one, and the application process was easy to follow online and had a quick response.
