Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I have a range of topics in my day to day role, from basic admin tasks to being able to draft up and write sections of structuring and due diligence reports. I have been able to get involved with other internal aspects too such as helping with the training programme.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Right from the start I have enjoyed my programme. When I first joined there was a really well structured induction programme and I also had lots of support when getting to grips with all the internal systems used daily. I have been able to establish good working relationships and people always have the time to help me and chat to me which makes working much more enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have hugely improved my excel skills while working, I have learnt how to use a variety of formulas and have been able to analyze data through using excel. Another skill I have developed is my communication, I have been able to improve my communication of questions when I am unsure on a topic and also improved my communication of technical areas.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
From the day I joined there has been a good training and support structure in place, for example during the first week we had lots of sessions about joining and all that we would need to know. Over the last 8 months I have had multiple training sessions to ensure that I am able to develop my technical knowledge to a good standard. It has been a very easy process so far.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have received ample support from EY. From ad-hoc queries about training or exams, to everyday guidance on tasks that need completing. I have never felt lost or unsure on what I am meant to be doing as I know there are lots of people in the team that I can reach out to and who would be willing to provide me with support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
When working towards my qualification, everyone has made it clear that this, as a level 1, is a priority. They understand my need to have the evenings free to study and help accommodate this. I have never felt the expectation to be that I have to work endlessly and will not have time to study. They have been very understanding and supportive regarding my study.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
After studying for accountancy, I had developed my knowledge of technical vocabulary and different phrases that are commonly used in practice, this helped me gain a better understanding when carrying out my day to day tasks, such as account reviews as I now had better knowledge of the different aspects and different impacts of account balances, which prior to my professional qualification study I did not know.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Even though it has been in a virtual environment since I have joined, there has been lots of socials including Christmas events, this has really helped me get to know the team. There are also lots of different networks within the firm that you are able to join and they run different events and webinars for the members. In non-COVID times there are sports teams to also join.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
While working at EY I have been able to develop and learn lots of new skills which I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. At EY there is a huge people focus, which makes you feel more valued as an employee and makes it a nicer environment to work in as you know people care about you as a person, not just with regard to the work you're completing but your wellbeing too.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Understand what EY values as a firm and what their drive is, as this is a central focus of the company and something they invest lots of time into. I would say to people it is a lot more comfortable than what you would expect and even though you are in a professional environment, they are all people at the end of the day and they understand your needs and concerns.
