Summer Intern Review

I worked as a Summer Intern within EY's Audit practice, primarily supporting the BGL engagement. My role involved assisting with substantive audit testing, reviewing supporting documentation, performing sample testing, documenting audit evidence, updating audit workpapers in Canvas, and supporting year-end audit procedures. I also assisted with engagement administration and documentation, including maintaining trackers and supporting work involving Global Delivery Services (GDS).
On a day-to-day basis, I attended team catch-ups, worked through audit testing assigned by seniors and managers, investigated variances, documented conclusions, reviewed client support, and collaborated with engagement team members to ensure audit documentation was completed accurately and on time.

Yes. I was trusted with a variety of real audit tasks that formed part of the engagement team's work. While I received guidance and review from experienced team members, I was responsible for completing testing, investigating issues, documenting my findings, and communicating progress back to the team. This gave me a good understanding of how audit engagements operate in practice and allowed me to make a meaningful contribution to the team.

Yes. During my internship, I developed both technical audit knowledge and professional skills. I also improved my Excel skills through testing and reconciliations.
Alongside the technical aspects, I developed my communication skills by working closely with team members across different levels of seniority, asking questions, discussing audit findings, and presenting updates during team catch-ups. I also improved my organisation, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines.

Felt well supported and plenty of guidance. Did wish training was longer.
