Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Manage and measure the impact to the labour model that food stores use. Using industrial engineering techniques to measure how long each process takes. Work with projects within the company to provide subject matter expertise of the labour model, and the impact of any changes that are being proposed. Understanding and improving the productivity of food store colleagues .
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am enjoying the programme thus far, it has provided a good opportunity to build a bigger stakeholder network with other colleagues on the programme as well as providing an opportunity to speak to other internal stakeholders. The tutors are all friendly and approachable, and try and relate the course material to our roles.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
The course so far has provided good context in areas which I wouldn't normally be involved with. Examples include project management, overview of finance , and career management. It has allowed me to view my current role with a different lens using new information or learnings, and apply new skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Programme has been well structured so far. It has been difficult due to covid, but any changes have been communicated well. It is clear when assignments are due and when study blocks are taking place. Tutors are approachable and will assist with any queries around any changes to the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Feels like this is dependent on who the line manager is. My line manager is very supportive and supports with any queries, and allows me time to complete the assignments or other work. The overall support from the apprentice team has been minimal, and didn't provide much direction.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Support has been good, tutors are approachable and respond quickly to any questions. Personal tutors will spend time with me and arrange 1-2-1s where they're happy to chat through any queries or concerns about the course, or specific pointers about a particular assignment. Admin side has been fine with changing details etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel the qualification once completed will give me a wider understanding of how the business works. It has provided me with skills to view the impact of my role or department under a different lens, i.e. through a marketing perspective. Having the wider business context will help me in future roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a few working groups available, focusing on Wellbeing, BAME, women at work etc. Social activities and sports teams are limited at the moment due to covid but are available in normal circumstances. There are some ad-hoc events which all colleagues can join in, such as talks by external suppliers / experts etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend The Co-op to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Co-op offers plenty of opportunity to progress and develop yourself. As its such a large company there are plenty of areas and roles in which to develop yourself. Co-op is focused on developing behaviours as opposed to just hitting a number or key performance indicator, and supports wellbeing of its colleagues
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Co-op?
This is to work for a company that focuses a lot on communities, and doing the right thing. They are less focused on profits and more concerned with how we get there, with providing a sustainable future for all communities in the UK. It is a friendly company with opportunities to grow.
