Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
During the day I worked as a flying start intern. This meant that I was a part of an audit engagement team and helped to test items like payroll, cash, AP, AR etc. I did tests like accept-reject and targeted testing and we communicated with the client for any issues or requests we had.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am very much enjoying my programme. It is very unique and allows you to learn at university and retain that support and knowledge whilst also being able to utilise that and expand on that knowledge through placement. I am also paid during my placement which is very helpful as well.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt how to communicate in a more professional manner more as I have been exposed to this as well as learning from the team members who I worked with. I have also learned a lot about new audit terms and processes which is quite different to the more basic terminology you learn in class.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well organised. The team at PwC and University of Reading make it really easy for you to settle in and the training is perfectly timed. It has meant that one thing is off my mind as there are always people to turn to and enough support mentors and meetings.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There was a lot of support received. There are managers, senior associates, your buddy and career coach that you can ask for support. Also, in general team members are just happy to help when you ask even when they're busy. PwC as an employer show real commitment and genuine passion for helping supporting their employees.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I received quite a lot of support as we had our training sessions in the two weeks before we started our placement. They were always on hand during that time to help out if we had any questions and I'm sure the tutors would have helped out when I started placement if I had asked for it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has helped me to go back to university and understand what I am learning and add depth to it. I can understand the issues behind things and that there is more complexity and judgement rather than just "maths" and financial statements. It has also helped me to be more better aware when it comes to being a full-time auditor.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are quite a lot! As my placement was virtual we had remote social fun sessions every week with my engagement team (which I got to organise) and there are also more socials during the year with your business unit. There are networking events and professional events through the year as well as specific sports/marathon teams.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
PwC is a very authentic employer in the sense that they really care about your wellbeing and professional development. The team belonging and growth at PwC is amazing and makes you feel like you're part of a special connection. I also like that PwC are thinking of more working from home opportunities as this is important to me
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
Try to understand more about PwC and what you can add to PwC as an employee. During assessment days/interviews ensure that you are yourself and that you outline the professional behaviours that you feel that you have. Most of all, it's so important to be a good team player, a lot of our work is in teams and this is paramount.
