Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work at the Nottingham city centre chapel bar as full time receptionist in charge of the day to day running of the front of house , including event planning via group bookings , check in room checking , dealing with payments and general exceptional customer service , dealing with customer complaints and all issues of time management .
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Very much so , despite having many wobbles and nerves about if I could do the course as i lacked confidence in myself and definitely lacked the ability to navigate the computer, I managed with the exceptional support of Rachel my trainer to finished and felt very supported all the way through

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills regarding the background running of reception and how to lead and be responsible for the team , how to plan in advance and help and guide the team to do their best , giving them encouragement at all times also a better understanding of the computer and systems

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I felt it was very well organised and despite a few hiccups as I am old school and needed pen and paper , I struggled with having to use a windows computer then swoping when I was furloughed to my iMac as I didn’t have windows at home but managed
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
This is a difficult one as unfortunately I’ve been on and off furloughed for the entire of my apprenticeship so I’ve been mostly at home, but anything I have wanted work has been very happy to help and I was very much encouraged to be on the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have had every bit of help I have asked for even when I know I should have known the answer I was definitely not made to feel uncomfortable asking, and I am a much better person for it as it gave me strength to keep going and confidence to finish
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
Yes it gave me more insight into the role but to be honest I expected it to be more site specific and to learn more about the Bart system that we use , I was a bit unnerved with the business project and the professional discussion and the worry of that did cloud the experience a bit
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Yes we have team building nights out usually bowling or escape rooms so it can involve everyone and I did a sponsored mountain climb with the managers which was very good for networking there are no sports teams or social activities other than that as far as I’m aware at the moment

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because the company itself is very good and it has helped me learn a new role after being made redundant in a career I had never tried, even being in my 50s I was made to feel I was worth training and encouraged and also have never been made to feel out of place or too old
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
To be yourself and be honest decide which role is better suited to you and be willing to be the best you can be , always want to progress and learn new things as that will help you get promoted and it is an easy organisation to change direction and feel supported
