My work experience involved interacting with apprentices and learning about their role within the company. We developed our interview skills and took part in CV workshops. Considering my work experience was carried out via Zoom, I enjoyed interacting with current apprentices and learning about their roles within the company. I also enjoyed learning how to assess risk and playing risk games with other students on work experience. I also enjoyed being interviewed and receiving personal feed back from the interviewer.
How well organised was your work experience?
4/5
Very well, the day was organised well into zoom calls which were given to us prior to the work experience starting. This allowed us to prepare for the days ahead. Communication was exceptional and we received personal feedback from our mock interviews. This was very helpful and has helped me improve it n my interview skills.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?

It helped me a lot, I now know which career path I want to take and I explored the option of an apprenticeship which is something I wouldn’t have done before. I know that MMC is a great company to be an apprentice for, I also learnt about the different types of apprentices and the reality of travelling to London each day which is something that appeals to me.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
4/5
No.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
3/5
I significantly enhanced my CV writing skills along with how to interview successfully. I learnt how to assess risk along with the different job roles within insurance. Considering my work experience was carried out on line, I developed Zoom skills which is something I feel will be valuable as office culture has shifted in light of the pandemic.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
4/5
I learnt a lot about MMC after speaking to many apprentices, directors and being interviewed. I learnt about the different departments, being guy carpenter and Mercer. I learnt about what it is to be a insurance broker, and the different areas that each departments specialises in. For example Mercer looks at Health and Well-being.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
4/5
Yes, we held zoom calls with other apprentices and held talks with other directors from different departments. Here, we had the opportunity to ask them questions. The mock interview was held with a recruitment manager that was very helpful. My work experience also helped me to expand my Linkdn network.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Marsh McLennan to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Everyone I interacted with was very approachable and answered any questions I had. It can be daunting being on a work placement but I felt comfortable. I learnt a lot about the company and finished my placement wanting to work for Marsh and McLennan. It’s a globally recognised company and is very impressive to future employers to have worked for.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marsh McLennan?
Make sure your personality shines through. Marsh and McLennan places great emphasis on having good colleague relationships. Make sure to be confident and know your strengths, my interviewer said this is very important. I was also told that when being interviewed make sure to follow your points with stories/examples as that can be very telling of your character and work ethic.
