Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a receptionist I am work alone on the desk. My duties is majority computer based, using a couple off different computerised systems. I am responsible for being the person in charge that day, and meeting guests needs and expectations to the best I can. Through check in, resolving problems, amending bookings, answering the phone, completely daily/ weekly/ monthly tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy in it, as like I said above it has helped me brush up on my skills and knowledge, as compared to my university degree I’ve had more one to one learning and development which has helped me focus on areas I’m not to sure about and I’ve actually had the chance to take time with that Subject.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I’d say I have developed existing skills, as I come from a background off completing a degree in hotel management. So I’d say it definitely has helped me brush up on a few skills and knowledge such as having more confidence, how to deal with different types off people and how to resolving different scenarios.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
In terms of the modules it is structured well. However, no one has explained to me what is expected off the apprenticeship, and what is involved in it. I have been meaning to ask my tutor. I just wish it was clearer as I’ve heard from someone else that were expected to do a business plan at the end off the course.. but again that was just hear say.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I actually receive good amount of support from my employers more than I thought. No matter the questions, simple or silly I can ask and she helps me. Same with any one that works within the hotel everyone is more than willing to help me and to go out off their way to find answers for me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I received a lot off support. I was quite surprised when I was stuck with someone and emailed with how quick I got a reply back and how helpful each person from the provider has been really helpful and lovely and welcoming. So I know if I need help I won’t hesitate to ask.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It helps me perform better as I know what it expected off the hospitality industry in regards to behind the scenes to what customers expected and want and all the in’s and out’s off both. It helped make a few more things and situations make more sense throughout my shifts.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There’s aren’t any extra curricular activities to get involved in that I am actually aware off. I don’t know if this is classied as extra curricular but there’s a Facebook page called purple people which is just for premier inn staff, which is actually really helpful as if one sights experiencing something it’s likely another site is too, and I know if I’m ever stuck someone will be able to help me.
Also the company has a ‘force for good’ which is all to do with the community and being environmentally friendly so I always try and make my behaviour and attitudes in line with these.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
from my experience, everyone is very lovely and helpful and I have only been there a short time and within a couple days I had been made to feel so welcome.
My boss also saw an opportunity in me and pushed me to peruse reception as I originally started in housekeeping. Without her persistence I would have never thought off going on to reception.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
There’s many people that say whitbread are a bad company to work for from what I’ve heard but until you experience it for yourself don’t pre judge. As I’ve actually really enjoyed my time at whitbread premier inn, from being welcomed, to good training and for this apprentiship
