Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a housekeeper, at the beginning of the shift. This involves being handed out your room list, making up your caddy with the right amount of cloths and cleaning products. Going up to the floor you're on and making up the linen trolley with right amount of linen and starting your shift.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
It's giving me guidance and support in fulfilling my role as a housekeeper. I'm learning new skills and developing a better understanding of the hospitality industry.
This in turn means that I am able to present the company in a professional manner and uphold standards at all times.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
New skills I have learnt are how to make up a bed to a professional Whitbread standard and also assemble a truckle bed. Existing skills: being able to work on my own without supervision needed, or with a team of diverse people and roles, meaning that I can give guidance if needed to any new members of staff.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Although I do find it challenging at times, the support that it is giving me in my role is invaluable. The training is well organised and interesting. I have learnt a lot of information about my role and the hospitality industry that I had limited or no knowledge about. Up until now it has been very advantageous.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My manager is always willing to point me in the right direction if needed and offer advice, which is always practical and thought provoking. I also have my Lifetime trainer available if and when needed, to offer extra guidance and support, which I have found invaluable and am very grateful for.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Like having mentioned previously, my trainer has always offered the guidance when needed but also given me space to act on my own initiative. She has made the learning programme feel rewarding and I have gained confidence over the duration of the course, which I am sure will benefit my future with the company.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I have more understanding of what is required in housekeeping within the hospitality industry. I have learnt to deal with customer issues and present myself in a very professional manner. I am a big believer in first impressions and some customers will form their opinion of the company in the way the housekeeping staff address their issues.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is a Facebook group known as Purple People, which is a group for employees of Whitbread. I like to keep up to date with day to day issues, such as any problems that may have been encountered. This has been invaluable during the pandemic as other social activities have been curtailed for the foreseeable future.
