Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a kitchen team member my role consist of the preparation and cooking of guest meals. As we operate a hot line kitchen it is my responsibility as well as everyone else’s on the team to ensure that the kitchen is cleaned thorough out service as well as, to ensure that food safety regulations are followed.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have been enjoying my programme so far even though I am unable to be onsite at work due to COVID-19. It has been interesting so far i find the way the online lessons are conducted is ok but would prefer being able to use my mic instead of typing as the text type white on white so can’t see what I am writing.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

As I am on furlough i have not been able to developer my skills at work but I have been developing my Food Health and Safety skills at home. I have also been developing my written English skills by attending online classes. Also I have been developing my IT skills: I now know how to use Skype (Yay!).

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have only been on this programme for three months I believe but I would say that the structure so fare is ok. I am focusing on my English reading and writing exam this month so have been doing a lot of revision witch my tutor has helped me plan out.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

At the moment not much by way of work as the site is closed and nobody is working. But we have made plans to go though what I will need as support when I return to work.
They also give me support in exploring other interests outside of work such as learning a second language.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5

I have received a lot of help from my training provider. I am also able to ask for help and/or advice from my tutor at any time and know that she will get back to me as soon as she is able to. The learning platforms are also easy to navigate albeit not very interactive in my opinion.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

This qualification allows me to learn more about my role in the kitchen as well as how what do affects the working of the restaurant staff.
It also allows me to develop the skills I need as a team leader and learn new skills to move towards my career goal.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Activities that we do are:
- team dinners, that are organised by us when we have time
- birthday parties, sometimes
- after lockdown end the girls are planing to walk all the bridges in London.
- kitchens of Excellence finales

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Whitbread is a great place to work. I work at one of three sister sites in central London and we are like on big crazy family.
You get to know everyone including upper management, like the ROMs, as they sometimes stay at your site for upwards of three weeks.
You also get some great perks working here.
