Business Admin Apprentice Review

Within my job role, I provide staff members with levels of personal assistance and administrative support and assisting with reception duties, which includes meeting and greeting external customers. Another part of my role is creating emails that can be sent to everyone on site advertising specific events that are coming up in the workplace. I also do some work for communications and this involves putting stories together.

When I started my apprentice programme, Siemens were really organised in which they planned an induction week where we sat through training and got to know the other apprentices. They then put together a placement plan for the year for each apprentice where we would get to work in different departments. However, due to the current pandemic this has been put on hold due to departments being on split shifts.

I receive an amazing amount of support from my line manager, whether this may be for my work role or for college. My manager will support me in ways such as listening to my new ideas, helping me with projects, giving me advice and this is also the same with college. I have gone to my line manager several times and she has provided me with resources for my college work as well las helped me with questions.

When I started my apprenticeship, I was having frequent meetings every month where my training provider would talk to me about previous work I had completed, asked me how I was getting on and then set me new work. Now I have been in my role for 6 months the meetings have become less frequent and I have sometimes sent emails enquiring about something and she has not got back to me. However, on a whole my programme tutor has reassured me that I can book meetings with her whenever I need to and she will always be there to read through my work and this has been showed.

The work my training provider gives me has encouraged me and helped me to develop my knowledge about Siemens. For example I was set an organisation workbook that meant I had to go off an ask colleagues about Siemens so that I could further my knowledge and answer the questions. I have also had a stakeholders and processes workbook that has enabled me to do the same. All of this training has further increased my knowledge of the business, therefore I am performing better in my role because I know what I am doing and what I am talking about.

Everyone at Siemens is extremely friendly and I have the most supportive team who are helping me develop in my role, its a great environment to work in providing opportunities to gain experience in a working environment, get to know new people and to develop your personal skills.
I am a very creative person, and this is something that I didn't think I would be able to showcase in this apprentice role. However, due to having the opportunity to show my skills and talents, this is something my manager has now in cooperated into my job role as its a strength of mine.
