4/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role varies depending if I'm on placement or doing university work. We do chunks at university where we go in everyday and take part in practicals and lectures. During placement time it can be spent doing coding, fixing soemthing, building something, design, it really depends on what placement you're in.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme, obviously there are some dull days that drag, but there are also some really great, exciting days.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have definitely learnt a lot, I've become more confident and outgoing and more sure in myself.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The managers are really good and help with anything, keeping you up to date at all times, we get some uni chunks and some placement chunks which is useful as you don't have to worry about uni work whilst on placement, and it's a nice break.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is actually really amazing, I personally struggle with a lot of things and they give me a lot of support and help me be able to do the things I enjoy and keep up with everyone else.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
They are okay, they are a lot more picky with support and can feel like they don't believe or trust you.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I learn a lot and it does come up, but there is a lot of on the job training and learning which you can't get from university. It is nice to have the foundation knowledge to build off though.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are lots of clubs, but I find it a bit daunting sometimes as there are so many people and with lockdown there haven't been many activities organised.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They have been really good and supportive, everyone is super kind and helpful, and I couldn't be where I am without them.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Just go for it, it can seem like you're doing the wrong thing in the interviews but they aren't looking for someone who knows it already, or has experience, they are looking for someone who they can teach and help grow. They decide on the person, not on their knowledge, I certainly didn't know much when I started.
