Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The course is block based, 3 months at uni then 3 months working, repeated for the 3 years. Whilst on the job, I have performed a variety of tasks, setting up equipment, building studios, writing scripts, using test equipment, fixing equipment, soldering, etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have learnt so much and gained lots of useful experience aswell as a degree, which can only improve my employability and job prospects in future. I have made some good friends and become part of a team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt and developed script writing, wiring, soldering, coding, problem solving, etc

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The course is very well planned out and structured, we have had some issues due to covid but nothing anyone can do about that really.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Any support we need the BBC would supply or the uni would supply. Our bosses are great at keeping in touch with us and making sure everything is going smoothly.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The Uni provide any resources we need for the qualifications, there is plenty of material available for all our topics.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
In terms of theoretical knowledge, the uni course has been great. I wish there was a little more practical stuff so that we could apply that knowledge better.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have done xmas parties and plenty of social events through the BBC

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
You get a degree and 3 years of works experience in industry, with a job at the end. Lots of great people and you'll make some good friends with the other apprentices and colleagues.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be unique and be passionate, its not all about a-level or BTEC grades when applying. They are looking for potential and people they know are going to work hard. Be confident in your interviews and make sure you communicate well.
Once you get the job, ask lots of questions and absorb as much info as possible. Say yes, help other engineers, help out at events, you will meet loads of new people and learn alot.
