Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves completing user stories around REST APIs. The team I am working with follows the scrum methodology which means we work in two-week sprints and take part in many scrum ceremonies. I spend lots of time learning from the other developers in the team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My apprenticeship has been enjoyable thus far and has surpassed my expectations. My team is very supportive and I have learned a great deal from working with them. The work appeals to my interests and I find it very satisfying knowing that my code is being used by customers.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned about software development processes and how to work successfully in a large team. Prior to starting my apprenticeship, I was teaching myself C# and making my own games. Since starting, I have learned principles and practices I had not encountered that improve the quality of my code.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very well organised and I have a clear understanding of the structure of the course. At work, I have been given access to Pluralsight which I have found very useful for my studies. During the week, I have enough time between working on tasks to learn.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Every week, I have a catch-up session with my manager where we discuss my progress and the tasks I have been working on. My team is always happy to help me and when I am assigned a task to complete, I am given lots of support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider offers a lot of support. Feedback is given on all the reports I write and my trainer always gives me helpful advice. I attend college every Tuesday where there have been lots of great opportunities and engaging talks from guest speakers on a variety of topics.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification teaches a wider variety of topics than what I would learn at work. I have used knowledge gained through my qualification to improve my performance at work. The qualification also covers careers in software development which I have enjoyed and has made me think more about my future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

As we are working from home, there have been a few social activities held on Teams. Around Christmas, there were quizzes and an online escape room where we worked in groups to solve. Recently, I joined the UK Technology forum which aims to find technologies for the business to use.

Why?
It's a great place to work, everyone is very supportive and happy to help. There are lots of benefits available such as a loan car and a bonus.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Volkswagen Financial Services?
For the interview, be honest and enthusiastic. As an apprentice, you are not expected to know everything, always ask if you do not understand, even if you think it is a silly question. During the onboarding process, I would recommend getting a password manager!
