Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a new apprentice, I am involved in the Aiding more senior engineers and technicians. This involves the organizing of files and issues, Printing and processing issues and as time progresses, I am being given more responsibility. I am in the covid safe office with a few colleagues. I am on weekly catch up calls with the whole team, and frequently have private calls with individuals, for current jobs and tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It was the best decision I made, The other option would have been university during Covid-19, and the benefits far out way the few disadvantages. I am gaining so much experience and the social interaction is very beneficial.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my experience, I have been given the opportunity to develop many skills linked to digital design and software usage. I have also developed many designing skills, including calculation skills and how to design under different circumstances. I have also developed many personal skills, such as communication skills and how to cope in difficult situations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have a line manager and mentor, who is two years ahead of me in the programme, who both keep in touch regularly and offer any help required. They even went out of their way to support me, after a death in my family. I am also part of a well structured training programme, for new joiners, and I am in regular meetings developing many skills, such as communication and business skills.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have a line manager and mentor, who is two years ahead of me in the programme, who both keep in touch regularly and offer any help required. They even went out of their way to support me, after a death in my family. I also contacted HR in my time of needs and they have offered me so much help and been there for each single situation.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have regular catch ups and meetings to mentor me through different stages. i have had CPD Meetings, catch ups to check how I'm coping and finally my mentor is there for any questions or advice.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My tasks and work has been tailored around preparing for my university course, so that when a study a course I have background information and experience to apply to learning.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

With the limitations of COVID-19, I have not had any opportunities, but the regular calendar included socials, team meals and events to meet up with other colleagues.

They offer an amazing opportunity and experience to progress. They have refined there experiences and opportunities into an inclusive and expansive program, with lots of aid, support and opportunities to progress outside of the base course. they offer a great salary and chances for shares in the company to allow a motivated workforce and chances to progress within the company. It is a great company to work for and offers great job security.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
Do your research into the company and its recent progression, and be confident, yet professional. They are wanting you to do well, so show your potential and take every opportunity if successful. Embrace the experience and do not reflect negatively on the surface of a situation. I left my interview earlier than they stated it such take, and told myself that due to that I'd failed, but Two weeks later I got a job offer.
