Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Providing admin support to clinical staff and services supporting staff within the NHS. This involves data processing, reception duties, making and receiving phone calls, dealing the emails, post etc. I am responsible for our computer system as well as other IT issues for the department.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
It was informative and I had a very supportive tutor. I am glad that I did it, although I did not imagine that I would be doing most of it during a pandemic. It has been a very stressful year and not an ideal situation to do anything academic, which I struggle with, it has meant I have experienced a lot more stress, certainly emotionally than normal as I work in the NHS.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have been doing this job, in an increasing responsibility level, for over 10 years. Since doing my apprenticeship I have learned a lot about why we do things the way we do.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Given the pandemic they were as supportive as they could manage
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Sandra Baker was wonderful and so supportive, both emotionally and practically.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It supports my many years experience and has helped me understand the reasoning behind the way we do things.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
While it stressful and busy (even more so at present) it is so important and working to support the staff as I do in my department gives me the job satisfaction I have never had in any other industry I have worked in. It made me realise that the only real career goal I have is to help others.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Be prepared - you never know what's going to happen from one day to the next, but it is so worth it.
