Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
This role involves the repair and maintenance of electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment and instrumentation. Including work on medical instrumentation, testing equipment and reactors.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy this programme very much, I find the combination of class work/theory and shadowing and practical work useful for learning this job role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills such as soldering, fault finding, problem solving, pipe-work, metal-work, some software skills and I have gained a new insight into how engineering is carried out from a business perspective.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The organisation of this programme is good, the structure has been fully explained to me from the start and help and support is always available should I need it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I always receive support when requested. If I need extra time to focus on college work then it is always granted. Extra support is also in place to aid my college work, for example, if I need a project to work on then my employer always tries their best to find one for me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider gives in-person, classroom based lessons once a week for my HNC. The training provider also meets with me once a month to aid me in my NVQ and is always contactable via email should I have any questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Almost all of my training and the qualifications that I am working towards are highly relevant to the work I do on a day to day basis. Where the theory work is not directly applicable it goes towards laying foundational knowledge that may prove useful in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There have been multiple education trips to see events regarding robotics and automation, something which my employer is heavily interested in and has wanted to get myself and the other apprentices involved in. There are also exercise groups at work, which aim to climb the 3 peaks challenge with varying levels of difficulty for those of various experience.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Siemens Healthineers to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Siemens Healthineers has been very welcoming and friendly, and they have clearly put a lot of effort into training me for a role that I have never had before in life. Working here provides both challenges and the support that is needed to overcome them, helping me grow as an engineer.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens Healthineers?
Go for it and be enthusiastic, I did not have previous qualifications in engineering (just maths and physics A-Levels), but that has not deterred my employer from hiring me. It has been the largest stepping stone in my career and working for a name as big as Siemens will no doubt look good on any C.V.
