I now manage the tool hire department in the branch.
This involves finding new customers and providing a great service for the current ones. We hire out plant from our own stock and source what we don't have from suppliers. I have to juggle rescources alot and prioritise jobs to the best of my ability.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoyed the programme. It opened my eyes to so much and helped with my home life aswell as worklife. I felt the pressure with certain modulesbut breezed through others. Created a great bond with my mentor who still helps me out to this day. I've created a great network of new friends and suppliers by coming out of my shell a bit thanks to the course.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I didn't handle pressure well until I took the course. I now use skills I learned like breaking things down into smaller bite sized problems. I Handle different personalities better which includes customers and staff. I dont react to bad situations as I used to. I now take a few minutes, blow the red mist away and try to resolve it calmly. (Most of the time)

How well organised/structured is your programme?

We were the first to trial a new system when we started so it did have teething problems. All the problems have been ironed out now though and the new apprentices have a much better time completing there modules.
I had a bad 3 months but the rest of the year, I was very well supported.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Great support and plenty of contacts to ring when I needed guidance. I had a change of mentor after 3 months, but the new one I had was amazing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There were teething problems at first which lead to alot of work being done that didn't meet criteria. This was due to a bit of mis communication and misunderstanding. This has since been resolved.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Without a doubt it has helped me in and out of work. I have greater confidence and handle all aspects of my role differently and better.

We are a small team with a wide range of age groups. (21 - 63)
I have got a few to play snooker now and again to bond.
Special occasions is the only other means of getting everyone together.

Yes
Why?
I know how much I've grown, in and out of work so I would encourage anyone else to go for it. It is hard work at times but it is worth the effort without a doubt.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins plc?
Don't struggle on your own. Use your friends and rescources as that's what they are there for. Ask for help when needed and If you share my experiance, It was a plessure to help others. It has even made me think of following a mentor / coaching role in the future.
