Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is Assistant Theatre Practitioner Myt role is to circulate in the theatre and scrub for the surgeon. The first job of the day is making sure we have everything we need for the procedures we would be doing, We get the trays ready to use. We count all the instruments in the trays. Then we have a team brief to talk about the procedures that we are going to be doing. We find out about allergies, weight, age, and if there are any other complications. My job has been to circulate which is the first job I had learned to do in the apprenticeship. Now I am learning to scrub for the surgeon which is such a fantastic job to do. After the procedures are done we would clean the theatre and get the tray orders done so we have all we need for the next day
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy this program. I feel i have had a second chance at having a great career. Everything I do at work is rewarding and I look forward to going every morning. I have a great team and every one of them is so supportive. Everything about the course is great. And I look forward to finishing is so I can move onto the next step of my career. I am very grateful to be doing this course

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Everything I have learned since I have started this course is a new skill, I had come from a different background and have had to start at the very beginning. I have learned how to talk to patients, how to look after them, how to prepare them for surgery, how to position them for surgery. How to set up trays for surgery, how to circulate and I am currently just learning how to scrub. I keep progressing every day.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I feel my course is well organized. To have one day week to do study time is the perfect amount without being taken away for learning on the job. I find it very easy to navigate around one file and find the time on site is very educational. I learn something new every day. my tutor is also brilliant and has all the time in the world to help me. The way I have been given time for maths and English also has been great and hasn't got in the way of my course
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received 100 percent support from my employer. My lead nurse, practice educator, and even theatre management are always checking my progress and asking me if there is anything that can help me with my training. My lead nurse also is putting me in the same procedures to ease me into my new role so she does not bombard me with to much information. I find it works well and I can take more information in this way.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive plent of support for my training. My tutor is always talking to me and helping me with my course. She gives me guidance on how to find the answers maybe I struggle on, also she helps me understand the course I am on. I have had phone call buy the collage to find out how I am doing on my course and how I feel, what have a learned, and what do I enjoy or what has been the most memorable part been so far.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel the qualification is going well. I feel that the way is set out is just perfect. With how much time I have on-site to how much time I have for studying. the questions that I have to answer really make me understand more about my job role. If I don't know the answer, I get a chance to research which I find loads of information on the way. I feel my knowledge has improved quite a lot since I have started this course
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
They are not many social events that happen. Sometimes team-building exercises happen. I have not been on any. there are plenty of training courses to do which come around often enough. Usually yearly as the goal post can be moved quite often. the only social events that happen are nights out which are planned by our own staff. but I have not yet been on any. Sometime that have events outside in the grounds to raise money.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Since i have started working for the NHS I have never been happier. Even before I have started this course I had been a support worker and found that job just as rewarding. Helping people is a brilliant thing to do. Knowing you can make a difference if only a small one is something I love. They are very supportive in helping to better yourself and your career. I look forward to seeing where I am in 10 years
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Just be honest, show them you are a caring person and how much you want to help people, be a people person because knowing how to speak to people is a big part in doing a good job, You can show your qualifications but don't forget to show how kind and compassionate you are. Also, show them you are eager to learn and progress. If you have these qualities your perfect for the job.
