Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
As a showroom sales manager I am responsible for bringing profit into the branch. I must work to hit targets and offer the best levels of service available, from start to finish.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I very much enjoyed the group sessions, learning new techniques and strategies with like minded apprentices was very satisfying. The pace at which our tutors worked offered the opportunity to learn and practice the modules whilst keeping you engaged and interested.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
My level 3 apprenticeship gave me greater insight into how my personality effects my professional work as well as how to tailor my style of managements for differing situations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The group sessions and out of site sections of the programme had great structure and organisation. I did often find the follow up work in my working environment hard to fit in between my daily duties. During my apprenticeship I feel very behind on the post session work and managed to agree with my mentor and manager to find more time to get the work complete. Ended in Distinction.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
At first not very much, my daily work duties came before the apprenticeship. Once I had to address to the backlog of work my manager helped schedule more time for my course work in working hours.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My tutors and mentors offered a lot of help and support. I am massively impressed with the quality of the tutors and mentors.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Personally I enjoy my new understanding of insights and the effects they have on my work, though I will say since finishing my programme with a distinction I have applied for new roles and not managed to progress. I am interested in starting a level 5 programme in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Each year my branch organises and hosts a charity car & bike show.

Recommendations & Advice

Yes
Why?
Travis Perkins is a large group with a wide range of jobs available. They offer further development courses for those interested and often promote from within.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins plc?
From my experience you must be willing to learn at a rapid rate. Since joining TP group after leaving university, I have gained vast knowledge of the P&H sector, stock, merchant practices and taken on training such as Fire Marshall, first aider, fork lift op. Practical experience is highly valued in a branch.
