Sales and Marketing Placement student Review

• Provide support on the best practice approach to marketing campaigns while adhering to quality and brand standards
• Learn about different marketing channels and bring innovative ideas on how the firm can engage effectively with key audiences and stakeholders
• Monitor and create organic and paid social media campaigns for the corporate channels including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram
• Monitor web page activity, including analysing data and use the insight to make informed decisions on the design, content and digital strategy
• Assist on the organisation of events and the management of agency relationships, sponsorships and partnerships
• Demonstrate active use of the firm’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) system (Salesforce) to support business development activities to contribute to the management information for clients

When I started, I had been provided with what campaigns I was working on as well as the team I would be placed in. We also had the option to switch roles half-way through, which would enable us to get a wider experience. A lot of training was provided in the first 3 months to fully allow myself to understand and use the platforms and software.
Alongside my campaigns, myself and the other three marketing placement students were allocated a group project. We worked with various areas of the firm such as design, the studio as well as external agencies and was a great chance for us to all work together.

At PwC, everyone is so friendly and open to getting to know you - so just put a catch up in with new people. People are extremely supportive and you have a lot of areas where you can get support.
Line Manager: Focuses on your day-to-day role, workstreams and capacity. I had weekly catch ups and was in the same office as my line manager so they were always up to date on what I was doing.
Career Coach: Guides your short-term career goals (within PwC) and long-term career goals (after uni) and anything you want to get involved in throughout your placement.
Buddy: Help in settling in and any admin questions (e.g: timesheets, lockers and how to get around the office).

Everyone is still aware that you are at university, so when I had to attend some lectures for my uni, my manager was very understanding and allowed me to still balance uni and work. I also had to carry out a report on my placement year which would count towards my final grade, and my managers and career coaches comments provided me with constructive criticism to achieve a higher grade. There is a wide accessibility of support from all areas of the firm.

I have built my network both internally and externally of marketing by maintaining strong relationships. I have taken it upon myself to attend events outside of marketing, where I have met people in the business, so I have gained a wider understanding of the company as well as attained relationships to support my long-term career goals. I believe I have also established other transferable skills such as stakeholder management and project management which I can apply effectively within future roles, after university.
