Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Day to day I do design work using AutoCAD, basic project management such as managing finances and other project related admin related to many different projects across the borough of Westminster
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy my job very much and I am happy with the support I get from work. I enjoy certain aspects of uni however I also don’t enjoy certain other aspects of uni.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt many skills such as using new software such as AutoCAD, signplot and also developed my skills using Microsoft programs. Furthermore, my communication skills have improved greatly in regards to talking to clients and colleagues over the phone, over email and in person.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My uni can be very unorganised and I think they could improve communication especially between the uni and my work. However I think that my workplace is very well structured for apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive an adequate amount of support from my employer. I am supported by my line manager and the learning and development team which both do a great job.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
I don’t feel that I receive very much support from my uni. My lecturers are mostly good but I feel that the uni really lacks in communication.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Some aspects of my uni course are relatable to my job however I would say that it is mostly not relatable. It is good to get a background and basics of what I’m doing but overall it doesn’t relate to my specific job. I understand this will be different depending on what each apprentice does in their respective offices.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
My office has social events and charity events that we often take part in. There is also a professional growth network however my office does not usually become involved in this specifically.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend WSP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
WSP is a good company to work for because of the support provided with my apprenticeship. They are flexible in allowing study time and taking time out to complete assignments and they are very good at keeping up with my progress. They also provide you with a good lot of experience for getting started in the field.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WSP?
Be honest if you have no experience and ask lots of questions
