Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Worked as an ecologist helping compile desk studies and reports such as PEA's and completing data entry and collation tasks while desk based. Alongside this I have worked on site completing various surveys including bat surveys, badger sett closures and GI supervision work.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I felt like I was given lots of responsibility during my placement. I contributed directly to reports which were delivered to clients and acted as a survey second on multiple surveys. While I was given responsibility I also felt there was support available the whole time.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I feel I have developed my written and communication skills through report writing and collaboration within my team and externally. As well as this I feel specific skills such as botany identification and surveying technique are new skills which I have learnt.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a large amount of support and guidance through the course of my placement. This came at a time when the workload for the team was extremely high so was even more appreciated from my end.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

General atmosphere was good with good connections between teams and internally to teams. Opportunities such as office football and social events made the atmosphere seem friendly and inclusive.
