Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Water Production Manager, responsible for the safe and compliant production of drinking water for Cheshire.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme was a great experience, although we were often the guinea pigs as the trailblazers and there was some dynamic changes to it as we moved through the years overall it was positive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
It has enhanced my leadership skills through the understanding of academic models around people's behaviour.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
As trial blazers there was a number of changes around the course including the portfolio which was included on the overall degree mark and dipped my scores against the normal degree essays and reports.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Support from the employer was mixed, I had a number of mentors and also my line manager changed three times. Support at the end from my current line manager was really good and the mentor I had through years 2 and 3. Again as trail blazers the manner in which the support is provided is now different.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support available from MMU was really good and available when needed especially during the pandemic.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has given me the confidence to apply theory in my day to day role and given me the opportunity to progress.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
There are some to get involved in but not well embedded in the field team I work in and more centred around the head office.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend United Utilities to a friend?
Yes
Why?
UU is an excellent company to work for and although there have been some changes to our benefits such as pensions the overall package provided as an employer is better than a lot of competitors.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to United Utilities?
Do your research on roles before applying as there are so many!
