Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As an Industrial Placement Student in Growth Strategy at PA Consulting, I supported high-impact client projects across sectors including defence, healthcare, and transport. My day-to-day involved conducting market research, analysing data, drafting strategic documents, and facilitating workshops. I regularly engaged with stakeholders, managed communications, and contributed to key deliverables. The role required strong analytical thinking, adaptability, and clear communication, and gave me hands-on experience in strategy development and client-facing consulting work.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

From the beginning, we were put on client facing work with tasks that were meaningful to the project. On my last project, I was the main deliverer of the work and felt confident doing so, showing how my high level of responsibility throughout the year led to confidence in my work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I've become much more confident talking to new and/or senior people as that is a lot of what we do at PA! I strengthened my analytical and research abilities through complex data analysis and competitor benchmarking. I also enhanced my written and verbal communication by drafting strategic documents and presenting to senior stakeholders. Additionally, I gained confidence in stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation, and independent project delivery.

There is an abundance of support. You have the early careers team, your line manager, your buddy, the other placement students, you make friends with the grads and you have support from everyone on the projects you work on

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Really positive company culture. Everyone is lovely and wants to help you develop. It is very common to put time in a partners diary and they are always happy to chat. There are very few unfriendly/ scary people.
