Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
In R&D, most interns focus on project work and do not visit the shop floor very often. As the electronics intern, the projects will likely involve PCB work at some point (e.g. PCB redesign, soldering) and electronics hardware assembly. Most likely there will be projects involving coding, most likely Python. There are also opportunities to participate in digitalisation projects (e.g. Power Apps, Power Automate). There are daily stand-up meetings to talk with the team.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given full responsibility of the projects I worked on. Of course, if I ever required help, it was very easy to ask anyone on the team to help. If they were unable to help, they would point me in the right direction.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I would say my experience in this role was fairly independent. If you ask for help or guidance, the team are always happy to help, as mentioned. There are regular one-to-ones with the line manager and, as mentioned, there are daily stand-up meetings where you can raise any queries/issues.
There is always a large group of interns, which make up a very supportive community and definitely made the placement all the more enjoyable.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Siemens Healthineers to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Siemens Healthineers
As a placement student, keep an open mind, often times, the line managers have certain projects that they have in mind for the placement students to take on, therefore, make sure that you highlight projects/skills that you have that are relevant to the role you will be taking on. Sometimes the skills/experience required for the projects are very specific, hence one applicant may be preferred over another. This is no indication of the individual being by any means better, rather, just currently more suited to the team.
