DE&I Intern Review

Day to day jobs include creating and writing content for social media, our website, our intranet site and internal invites for DE&I sessions. I also contribute to the activity within our DE&I strategy which includes assessing our diversity data, understanding our gender pay gap, researching external collaborations and staying up to date on best practice in DE&I.

I was given significant responsibility during my internship. Due to circumstance, I had to step up and manage the group of DE&I Champions which has been challenging at times but ultimately helped me grow and better my connections across business lines/functions. Additionally, my consistent correspondence with the management team has been a great responsibility but it has ultimately helped me thrive.

I have really improved my written and verbal communication skills, my management skills when leading calls and initiatives, my organisation skills and time management. New skills include understanding and managing budgets and learning how to work within brand guidelines.

I am in regular contact with my line manager, however as DE&I is not part of many people's day jobs, I sometimes felt that finding the right person for support/guidance on differing projects was tricky. It seemed that unless I went straight to the management team there wasn't really someone in the middle to guide me on things that were outside the scope of mine and my line managers work.

The company culture at Siemens Healthineers is fantastic however, I was asked to move to Camberley for the role and no one was ever in the office. The office is often incredibly quiet and back when I did go in often, I was regularly by myself the whole day. Therefore, I'd say the atmosphere in-person is quiet and somewhat lonely however, the culture is great.

I have loved my internship at Siemens Healthineers, especially how much I have been trusted with projects and the responsibilities I was trusted with.
