Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I execute marketing campaigns on retailer sites, including booking onsite and instore visibility. I work on digital optimisation and onsite hygiene to increase share of voice for Samsung products, with a view to increase sell out. A pivotal part of the role is relationship building and maintenance, as the key contact of our retail partners, from a marketing perspective. I monitor cost per click campaigns and data consumer engagement to improve the customer journey.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was incredibly suprised by the level of responsibility I was given throughout my placement. I was allowed to take the lead in one of our key national accounts which involved leading meetings, booking in visibility and managing product launches, working directly with the commercial team both at Samsung and at the retailer.
I was treated as an equal member of the team and always given important roles within any team-wide goals.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I worked hard on improving my organisation skills through managing the Go To Market process across a variety of retailer channels. It was important to keep track of our progress as each retailer follows a different process and we are often launching many products at once.
I have learnt a lot about digital hygiene, SEO and best practice for campaigns and business as usual activities. I have learnt how to imprve the customer journey. This is a transferable skill I can take on to any Channel Marketing job.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support from my direct team, I was always made to feel comfortable bringing up any concerns that I had whether that be personal or job-related. The HR team were also very supportive in booking in many opportunities for us to learn or attend trainings outside of our day-to-day tasks. The wider business had lots of Resource Groups which put on events and could direct you to help if you were struggling with something.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Samsung is very focused on KPIs and sometimes I felt this could restrict the opportunity for creativity, especially within my department. I think that the different areas of the business operated very differently and your experience could be very different depending on where you are placed. The business expect you to go above and beyond to achieve goals but sometimes communication between teams is not the best which can lead to issues.
However the company takes a ‘People First’ approach and clearly cares about their employee’s satisfaction.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my Placement and felt that the work/life balance was very good. I received a lot of opportunities outside my main job role which really enhanced my experience. The company culture is very comfortable and supportive and I would definitely recommend to a friend. I feel fulfilled and like I have learnt a lot of transferable skills that will aid me in my future.

What advice would you give to others applying to Samsung Electronics
Go in with an open mind, it’s likely that your job role will not be quite what you expected. Always be unafraid to learn from others in your team and ask for help when needed. This is your learning opportunity as well as a job and so you should always be looking for ways to expand your horizons, there are plenty of opportunities if you just look for them.
