UX Researcher Review

In my role as a UX Researcher, I analyse user behaviour through research studies to understand how customers interact with our products, identifying pain points to enhance overall user satisfaction and experience.
Day to day, depending on the type of study, my focus may include recruiting participants, transcribing interviews, synthesising data, providing actionable product recommendations, or updating our research repository with relevant research findings.

Once I had solidified my knowledge of the foundations of UX research, I was given more responsibility and began handling processes independently, such as participant recruitment, transcribing interviews, and providing actionable recommendations.

I have developed in three key areas: software skills, organisational skills, and soft skills. My software skills have grown through using Figma, Excel, user research platforms such as Userlytics, and analytical tools like GA4. I’ve strengthened my organisational skills by adopting time blocking, the Pomodoro technique, and consistently using a daily planner to manage tasks efficiently. In terms of soft skills, I’ve built confidence in presenting research findings to relevant stakeholders and improved my ability to communicate effectively within my team.

I received a lot of support and guidance from my manager in learning how to navigate corporate life, understanding research processes, and building a strong foundation in UX. I also benefited from the support of the wider team throughout my placement.

There are other placement students in different departments across the company, which creates a great opportunity to build a network with others in a similar situation. The company also hosts event talks during work hours, and organises offsite visits to various locations around Bristol, offering a refreshing change from being in the office.

It was a challenging year, but I learnt a great deal of valuable knowledge and now feel much more confident about securing a job after university and understanding what I want to get out of it.
