Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
An overview of my role is uploading financial journals that feed into the profit and loss statement, allocating financial transactions to the correct cost centres, analysing variances compared to budget and processing invoices for accommodation bookings.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given significant amounts of responsibility during my placement. I have uploaded financial journals that have values in the millions. I led a council tax project where I collated all the information for council tax billing and split this by property and individual rooms. Finally, I led a social responsibility project where I collated the total social responsibility spend which fed into the audit process.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Skills that I have developed are communication skills through attending a lot of team meetings, excel skills by learning a variety of formulas and functions and teamwork skills when working with colleagues on projects.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I have received lots of support and guidance during my placement. My line manager has weekly catch up and goals meetings with me to track my progression. My placement coordinator runs workshops to foster learning and development. Finally, my colleagues are always happy to help if I have a problem with my work.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and general atmosphere is great. There is a culture matters initiative to foster diversity and inclusion. In addition, Unite has values such as lead with heart to create a positive work environment. Finally, Unite take heavy consideration into personality when hiring meaning everyone in the business is really friendly and more than happy to have a chat and coffee.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have really enjoyed my placement and will be sad to leave! I have developed and progressed so much over the course of the year, learning key skills such as excel and key business terminology along with soft skills such as teamwork and communication. I have also created such an amazing bond with my colleagues and fellow placement students who I will definitely keep in touch with after my placement has finished.
