Risk Intern Review

My role as the Risk Intern entailed assisting the Risk & Assurance team in their daily tasks, ranging from assisting responses to SARs, helping write Internal Audit reports and helping track information for Insurance.

Yes, I felt as though I was given a fair amount of responsibility in my role. While most aspects were not too time sensitive, a few tasks were more urgent but I did not feel like I was being completely thrown into the deep end at all.

Having completed this internship, I feel like I have learnt interpersonal skills and how to network. Knowing that curiosity is valued and celebrated, I can now more easily ask others for help and guidance as well as inquire about their roles and learn how they can relate to me too. I have been able to develop my presentation skills too as us interns received a Presentation Skills workshop as part of the whole experience and were able to put the skills we learnt into practice when we delivered a presentation to our teams.

I received a ton of support and guidance from everyone during the internship. I was assured from the get-go that there are no stupid questions, which enabled me to ask for help much more easily. To add, everyone was super friendly and approachable.

Unite Student's company culture is centred around the 4 values Unite As One, Lead With Heart, Stay On Point and Challenge The Ordinary and I noticed teams mentioning these values and trying to apply them more in their work. The general atmosphere was casual but professional. Everyone was always willing to help.

I enjoyed my internship a lot as not only did it help me gain more work experience and get paid during the summer break, but it also helped me gain tips and tricks which I'm certain will help me through my career. I was offered lots of opportunities to try different things like volunteer and raise money for charity as well as help my team with important tasks.
