Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

On A typical day I will liaise with members of the team to scope out solutions for our software systems. I will also implement solutions using vs code. This includes test driven development to work towards an acceptable solution. I will then work with the QA team to assess the solution and the Platform Team to deploy solutions.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a fair amount of responsibility in being able to work on features that would be used by clients in production. I was also able to take on large internal projects.

I have learnt new software engineering disciplines such as sprints. I have enhanced my ability to break down, debug and solve problems.

I received lots of support from my team. I always had someone to turn to if I encountered a problem in my work. I also had lots of guidance at the start f my placement while I was gearing up to speed.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture at Egress is fantastic. Despite half of my placement being done online there was still plenty of opportunity to make friends.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed my placement thoroughly. I got to have real hands on experience in programming and get to see the fruits of our labours when the product went live. I also made lots of new friends and felt like I belonged.
