Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a clinical vaccine research scientist, I get the chance to undertake a range of responsibilities within the team, starting from assisting different clinical study initiation activities for site-facing and participant-facing documents, through to the conduct and closure of the trial. My daily interactions have an emphasis on with a focus on data research and analysis of the trials, observing clinical data trends and communicating findings with a variety of teams internally within our department.
I am involved with document reviews for studies, like protocols, protocol amendments, preparation of lab manuals, database analysis plans, protocol deviation reporting, informed consent document prep etc. I also get the chance to attend safety reviews, regulatory and quality, clinician, and study management meetings who all operate to ensure the smooth execution of a clinical trial. There are also other projects like volunteering and colleague resource groups that I actively support, where I undertake varied responsibilities.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I felt like a real team player, and was given the right amount of responsibility and trust. I contributed as a real Clinical Research scientist in the projects that I was involved in.

My supervisor, colleagues, and team, were one of the most supportive people I've worked with. In terms of encouraging me to achieve more, and being very understanding when life got in the way, they have always supported me.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
My placement did act as a key growth journey for my career progression and it was a genuinely enjoyable time for me. I felt like a valued part of the team, and had the chance to delve into the depths of the projects I took a part of. I am really grateful for the bonds and learnings I'll take away with me from this placement.

What advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer
Truly, be yourself, focus on your communication skills, and show your genuine enthusiasm for the role. Research about the company and what this team (you're applying to) does, and ensure that you have a broader understanding of its importance/relevance within the industry. In an interview, have some questions in hand and don't be afraid to speak up. Being kind and personable always acts as a friendly gesture when getting to know the team you are interviewing for. And, above all, try to focus on the positive and enjoyable the application process.
