Industrial Operations: Programme Delivery Review

I worked within the Digital Vehicle team within Programme Delivery. Our role was to ensure software alignment between cross-functional teams within the company, ranging from software testing, engineering, quality and procurement.

I was given significant responsibility, especially in the second half of my placement. At first the work was slower, giving me a chance to settle in and understand how the team and company as a whole worked. By the end of my placement, I was leading a key project for the team, which involved a wide array of different stakeholders, which has really helped my development both professionally and personally.

I learnt a vast array of new skills! I hadn't had any experience in the automotive industry before this placement, and with this role I was able to gain an understanding of what many different departments do within the company. I worked in the development of future vehicles, which was very exciting and fast paced. I was also able to apply skills I learnt from my degree, such as critical thinking, problem solving and excel.

I received significant help and guidance throughout my time at JLR. The induction period was calm and well organised, with some plant tours from currently Graduates and Apprentices. This really made me feel apart of a community, with a large network of people to reach out to if I needed. My team was friendly and welcoming, and there was a buddy system in place between new undergraduates and current graduates with Programme Delivery. It is clear within JLR that people are at the heart of the company.

The culture at JLR is very good. I felt that I had support, with everyone I met in the company being friendly, approachable and willing to help!

I really enjoyed my time at JLR. I was able to go two other rotations in my time, one into Research at Warwick University and the other into Software Integration. There is a real community within the Early Careers cohort, making it easy to settle in to working life. There are extra curriculum activities to get involved with too such as badminton and hiking, making it easy to meet new people.
