Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Day to day I facilitate the design and development of technology that improves both the recruitment and onboarding processes at JLR. I tend to work 8-4:30 every day and go into the office most days (although this is not required). I also work on some recruitment campaigns for photo and video shoots and help to film behind the scenes.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
At the beginning I mostly observed the team and completed small, supportive tasks that helped me understand the team’s workflow and company’s operations. I spent time shadowing colleagues, learning the systems, and gradually building my confidence in a professional environment. Now I have greater responsibilities, I independently managing my own projects, making meaningful contributions, and delivering results that have an impact on my direct team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have been able to develop technology and Excel skills, allowing me to apply the skills in practical scenarios such as data analysis and reporting. Through regular use of these tools and platforms, I’ve become more confident in navigating complex software environments. Additionally, the placement has enhanced my communication skills, as I’ve presented in meetings and showcases to diverse audiences. Working in a collaborative environment has also strengthened my professional and interpersonal skills, teaching me how to build relationships, adapt to different working styles, and contribute effectively to a team.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
From the start of placement, I had regular one-to-one sessions with my early careers cohort lead, which was a more wellbeing focused initiative. I also had one-to-one meetings with my line manager, who supported both my work and wellbeing. I had access to occupational health services and therapy, which was a huge benefit of working here. The regular undergraduate events organized by the Early Careers team allowed us to connect with peers, share experiences, and build relationships. This support network played a huge role in making my placement experience both enjoyable and beneficial.
