Marketing Executive - Student Placement Review

As a Marketing Executive Placement Student at Baxter, I work closely with the internal marketing team and our external agency on branding projects, including developing new brand messaging. I support marketing campaigns, create sales materials, and contribute to market research and insight gathering. I regularly attend calls, conferences, and field trips with various business units, gaining exposure to different areas of the company. These experiences have strengthened my communication, project coordination, and strategic thinking skills. I’ve really valued the opportunity to work cross-functionally and contribute to meaningful projects that support Baxter’s mission to save and sustain lives.

In my role, I’ve been trusted with a high level of responsibility, which has accelerated my development. The marketing team within my business unit is quite small, meaning I’ve had the opportunity to take ownership of key tasks rather than just observing. From managing projects and leading on the creation of marketing materials to liaising directly with our external agency, I’ve played an active role in driving campaigns forward. This level of involvement has given me real accountability and made me feel like a valued member of the team, not just a placement student.

During my placement at Baxter, I’ve developed a range of professional skills, particularly in communication and project management. One of the biggest areas of growth has been my confidence, especially in presenting. I now feel comfortable delivering presentations to larger audiences, including senior stakeholders, which is something I would have found daunting before. I’ve also strengthened my ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise tasks, and collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external agencies. Regular exposure to cross-functional work and real-time marketing challenges has helped me become more adaptable, proactive, and self-assured in a professional setting.

Throughout my placement, I’ve received incredible guidance and support from both my line manager and mentor. They’ve taken the time to involve me in meaningful work, provide regular feedback, and support my personal and professional development. I’ve always felt comfortable asking questions and confident that my contributions are valued. The wider team culture is equally supportive, everyone is approachable, collaborative, and genuinely invested in helping each other succeed. This positive environment has helped me settle in quickly, grow in confidence, and make the most of every opportunity that’s come my way.

I’ve absolutely loved my placement year at Baxter, it’s been an incredible experience from start to finish.
