Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
At the beginning it was mainly training on different aspects relating Audit and Bookkeeping.
Most of the time is cleansing list provided by clients, extract populations out of them and agreed those populations to the documentation provided by the client.
At the start of every audit, we would go and work at clients site for at least 2 weeks to engage with them and ask questions.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Just the normal amount for an assistant. Here they believe you will start learning from day 1, hence you must constantly catch up with everything and everyone which is a way of learning a job that I strongly believe on.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Many! My excel skills have increased enormously, as well as my professionalism when speaking to clients. I was used to speak to client, but in a more informal/relaxed way.
My understanding of bookkeeping and audit processes have been also benefited from this placement.
When it comes to workload management, I was used to it as I came from hospitality. However, here was different so I would say that skill has developed into something better.
My speaking and writing level as a foreigner speaker have also improved a lot.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Lots! As soon as you start a "buddy" is assigned to you. This is a person, with not much more experience than you to who you can ask questions or comment on things that you might not be comfortable telling your line manager.
This support has been key as well as they support from the rest of the team.
One of the first thing they tell you when you start is "Ask questions", "there's no stupid questions", "answering questions is part of our job"

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Relaxed it terms of speaking or asking questions. Most people are very young (most are younger than me) so it makes easier to speak to them as you would share more interests and hobbies.
The office is open plan, so you can approach anyone at anytime.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have (and I am still) enjoyed very much.
I though it would be something super formal and rigid where I would be doing the same everyday and it has been the complete opposite.
People are super friendly, willing to help and if you are the same, it just pays off.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to RSM
Go for it! Be natural, be yourself (specially on the interview) as that is what they are looking for.
They need a variety of people in audits as you will have to deal with many different people in different environments.
