Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
During my placement at Cummins, I managed marketing literature across print and digital formats, supported global sales through collateral lifecycle management, and led over 100 collateral requests and 40+ translations. I maintained the Digital Asset Management system, optimised metadata, and contributed to a successful brand rebrand. My role also involved supplier coordination, event support, and onboarding new placement students, all within a hybrid global team environment.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given responsibility throughout my placement. I independently managed over 100 collateral requests, led the rebranding of 50+ literature pieces, and coordinated a global merchandise restock involving supplier negotiations and budget management. I also oversaw the Digital Asset Management system, supported onboarding for new placement students, and represented Cummins at external events, demonstrating trust in my ability to handle key tasks and contribute meaningfully to the team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, I developed several key skills during my placement. I enhanced my project management and communication abilities through supplier negotiations and coordinating global deliveries. I also improved my data analysis skills by reviewing inventory trends and literature usage. Additionally, I gained new technical skills in Digital Asset Management and translation coordination, which supported global marketing efforts and improved content accessibility.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received strong support and guidance throughout my placement. My manager provided clear expectations, regular feedback, and opportunities to ask questions. I was encouraged to take initiative but always had access to help when needed. I also benefited from structured onboarding and training sessions which helped me integrate quickly and contribute effectively. However very little support was provided from marketing and sales outside of my team.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed aspects of work as the variety of projects—from global merchandise coordination to digital asset management—kept the work engaging and meaningful. Socially, the company is so large that there isn't many opportunities to interact with workers outside of work. Working from home a lot made it hard to fully appreciate work, however it was still a valuable experience.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
Be proactive and show a willingness to learn—Cummins values initiative and adaptability. Highlight any experience with teamwork, communication, or project management, as these are key in a global environment. In terms of many opportunities, you have to source them yourself, don't expect others to do this for you. There isn't many graduate opportunities so don't expect a job after completing a placement.
