Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
mainly competitor analysis with a heavy focus on excel day to day. I also developed training materials for dealers across Renault UK to help with their knowledge and assist in selling the vehicles, as part of this I also have to answer dealers questions regarding the vehicles and redirect them if necessary. I also manage and update internal information and assist in updating the website/brochures if something is incorrect or needs updating.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, even though Renault is a big organisation world wide it is quite small company in just the UK and only 2 product car interns are hired. Because of this you get a significant amount of responsibility when it comes to the vehicles, helping with launches and updating the website. You will gradually get more and more responsibility throughout the placement as they learn to trust you if you can do your job effectively.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
My excel skills developed greatly throughout the role as we consistently used this tool. My teamwork and communication within a team also developed as it was essential for ensuring new launches or facelifts of vehicles occurred on time and accurately. My organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks also increased due to the multiple deadlines that sometimes clashed, this allowed me to figure out systems that best suited me to get all work done efficiently and correctly.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
at the beginning of the placement you receive a 2 week handover from the previous interns and then meetings with line managers and senior managers. In these meetings they make it very aware that they understand you are a placement student and will have little to no experience in the corporate world, so support is good at the beginning. Throughout the placement I found the support and guidance gradually decreased which, at times, could be pressurising.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
it was a very open and flat structure, with not too many layers between you and directors. This meant it was easy to talk to senior managers and the marketing director who were all very friendly. It was hybrid working with 2 days a week in the office, the general atmosphere when in the office was a friendly and lively one but still professional enough where you can focus and get your work done but also socialise with everyone.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
This internship is an amazing opportunity as you have a genuine responsibility in the company and I have learned countless skills and knowledge about a corporate environment. As business is a big interest for me I've really enjoyed learning how a large company works internally, so mostly I have really enjoyed it. That being said, the work sometimes could get a bit repetitive and occasionally the management style wasn't the best which lead to some frustration.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Renault to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Renault
I think it is a brilliant company to get your foot into the corporate world and gain some really necessary skills that many employers are looking for and I would highly recommend the internship. The social life between interns and graduates is also very good if you plan activities yourself and actively seek out the social opportunities as everyone is very friendly. Unfortunately, there aren't always a lot of permanent roles for offer meaning that when they do come up they can be quite competitive so there is no guarantee of a permanent role.
