Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As stated previously, it involves working on varies tasks for sub and converter station projects across the country. From a day to day basis, I have been designing and managing electrical power transmission systems of a singular or multiple projects at the same time using softwares such as AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, Civil 3D, and STAAD Pro, (depending on what deliverable is needed)
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes I was given a huge amount of responsibility, which of course increased as the placement progressed, as my competency of skill and work also increased. Leading work by myself such as Earthwork Strategy's, piling and foundations Revit modelling, and many many other pieces of work completely by myself.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Both my soft skills and my hard skills have been majorly improved whilst working here, I believe something as small as 'getting to the point' and being straight with people has been a huge improvement that I believe I will take forward into my working professional life. Also of course my technical skills as an engineer have improved vastly, with various softwares and documents I have been working on.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received an incredible amount of support by my line manager, my colleagues and other employees of mott macdonald all around the globe. If I ever needed help with a specific issue, I wouldn't hesitate to reach out for assistance.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Incredible. I feel like I've really made some friends for life and professional connections that I hopefully stay in contact with for the rest of my life. The atmosphere has been incredible and its a great environment to work hard.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my placement (still have 2 months remaining) so much, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity I was given. I would highly recommend this opportunity to any aspiring engineer.

You want to be someone that people WANT to work with. Technical ability will only get you so far, you need to be someone that is enthusiastic, eager to learn, and most importantly a positive individual in the work space.
