Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The Gibson Dunn First Year Insight Day offered a mix of informative sessions. We learned about international corporate transactions, dispute resolutions, and pro bono work. The day included practical advice on applications and interviews, a trainee panel, and insights into secondments and DTI. The event gave a comprehensive overview of the firm's culture, roles, and career development opportunities, helping me better understand commercial law, especially at Gibson Dunn.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The Insight Day provided a valuable overview of the various roles at Gibson Dunn. I gained a deeper understanding of the firm’s international corporate transactions and dispute resolution practices, learning how different departments work together. The partner panel session and discussions with trainees further clarified the career progression within the firm, giving me a clearer picture of the diverse opportunities available, from secondments to pro bono work. It was a great introduction to potential career paths in commercial law.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I developed my commercial awareness by gaining insights into international corporate transactions and dispute resolutions. Furthermore, through the tips and tricks session, I learned about, and developed my interview and application skills. Additionally, the opportunity to engage with trainees and associates enhanced my communication and networking abilities, while learning about secondments and pro bono work expanded my understanding of the firm’s operations and values.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture at Gibson Dunn was very friendly and supportive. It was clear that colleagues enjoyed working together, as they often joked and interacted casually throughout the event, creating a relaxed yet professional atmosphere. This made it easy to see that the firm values camaraderie and strong relationships between team members, making the work environment feel welcoming and enjoyable while maintaining high standards of professionalism.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the virtual insight day at Gibson Dunn. The sessions were engaging and informative, providing valuable insight into the firm’s culture, the different practice areas, and the roles available. I particularly appreciated the interactive discussions with trainees and associates, which gave me a real sense of the day-to-day experience at the firm. The firm also offered everyone a Deliveroo voucher for our lunches. Overall, it was a great opportunity to learn more about commercial law in a dynamic and supportive environment.
