Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The day included listening to talks from Gibson Dunn employees with different roles, having conversations with them and networking. It was an amazing opportunity to learn more about the firm’s culture, secondments and pro bono opportunities. It was also incredibly insightful to hear from trainees, associates and partners across different practice as as well as the Graduate Recruitment team.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was exciting to learn about Gibson Dunn's wide range of different practice areas, showing that training at Gibson Dunn leads to a huge variety of opportunities. Learning about the firm's transactional and dispute resolution teams which work on top international deals, made me even keener to apply to the firm. Learning about the firm's diversity policies and resilience to stick to these policies was also inspiring.

The main skill I learnt was in relation to writing an application for Gibson Dunn. Hopefully, learning tips and tricks about this process will improve my chances of securing a vacation scheme with the firm in the future. Besides this, I gained a great deal of knowledge about different support networks, practice areas and secondments at the firm.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
It was a great opportunity to gain an insight into the firm's incredibly supportive culture. Throughout the day, Sarah Harte, Charis Hyman and Holly Parker offered their support and were open to questions, whether public or private. The trainees explained how a small trainee cohort reduces competition within teams and leads to supportive environments. Tommaso Salvatore was particularly supportive, emphasising that participants should reach out to him if advice was needed in the future.
