Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Following a welcome from Grad Rec and a welcome from the Training Principal, there were introductions to the firm's corporate transactional and dispute resolution practices. Throughout the rest of the day, we received application tips and tricks and learnt about DTI, secondments and pro bono at the firm. There was also a trainee panel.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Very very helpful. The path the firm offers is quite traditional and it was nice to learn about the path from lawyers who had taken different paths to the firm (some being lateral hires, and others following the TC route). Will definitely apply for a vac scheme in the future!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I developed my commercial awareness insofar as I learnt what is actually involved in the daily tasks of lawyers of different seniorities. Many misconceptions were resolved, especially about the perceived lack of structured training at American firms. I was also able to develop my initiative, making the most of the chance to ask firm representatives questions and learn from the answers provided both to my own questions and those of my peers.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I didn't think the culture would be able to be fully conveyed via the internet, but in hindsight I think that I was still able to get a good feel from it, esp. from trainee panel!
