First Year Insight Day Review

The insight day covered a range of aspect of Gibson Dunn, beginning with a broad overview of the firm, including its sectors and global reach. Later, we heard from various associates in different parts of the firm including international corporate transactions and dispute resolutions. We then heard from a partner about the Diversity, talent and inclusion element of the firm, followed by an application master class held by the graduate recruitment team. A trainee panel was also included, were we could ask questions and engage with trainees. Finally, we heard from associates about the opportunities at the firm for secondments and pro-bono work, and how the firm supports and encourages this.

It was extremely insightful and engaging learning about all of the practice areas of the firm and the various opportunities that comes with this. In particular, it was engaging learning about the role of secondments for trainees, and the abroad opportunities that come with this.

During the insight day, I learnt more about the firms practices, culture and opportunities. The skills I was able to develop was largely in relation to application and interview skills, due to the application master class. In addition to this, I would also say my commercial awareness was broadened, hearing about recent deals the associates have been a part of and how this fits into the broader commercial sphere.

The company culture was presented as very friendly, particularly with the trainee panel, who were very approachable and down to earth. During this panel, trainees expressed very clearly the supportive culture of the firm and how it is a very encouraging environment.

I enjoyed the insight to a great extent, as it really gave a clear insight into what the firm was really about, particularly its culture beyond what is shown on the website. It was informative and engaging, with lots of opportunities to ask questions and network.
